Xamera system requirements

Reviewed August 5, 2026

Xamera requires an Apple-silicon Mac (M1 or later) running macOS 15.0 or later. It accepts built-in, external, and Continuity Camera inputs, and the destination app must allow you to choose a camera source.

Mac and macOS

Processor
Apple silicon: M1 or later
Operating system
macOS 15.0 or later
Distribution

Camera inputs

  • Built-in Mac camera
  • External camera
  • Continuity Camera

Xamera's App Store listing includes 4K camera support. Available resolution and frame rate still depend on the selected camera and the app receiving Xamera's output.

Supported conferencing and streaming apps

The current supported-app list includes FaceTime, Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, OBS. Xamera can generally be used where an app lets you choose a camera, but individual apps can change how they handle virtual cameras.

Important limitation

If an app does not expose a camera picker, Xamera cannot be selected in that app. After installing or updating the Xamera camera extension, reopen the destination app if Xamera Camera is not listed.

Before an important call

  1. Open Xamera and confirm that the intended physical camera is selected.
  2. Check the Xamera preview at the resolution and frame rate you plan to use.
  3. Open the destination app and select Xamera Camera.
  4. Review the final preview, especially when using face tracking or background segmentation.
